Key Responsibilities
- Support the Controller in Directing and supervising the accounting team (primarily Accounts Payable).
- Prepare weekly payroll for two companies with a total of 125 employees
- Complete monthly bank reconciliations
- Assist in control of company assets
- Ensure accuracy of AP documents and ensure compliance with company policy while posting files coming from accounting clerks
- Maintain supporting documentation for all asset and liability accounts
- Assist in any regulatory filings or ad hoc internal reporting as required
- Monitor accuracy of all accounting entries and ensure in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
- Provide guidance and support to the AR and Purchasing team as needed
- Monitor intercompany transactions for completeness
- Prepare & review account reconciliations and analysis
- Complete monthly, quarterly and year-end journal entries, accruals, trail balances and financial statements for presentation to Controller
- Assist in year-end closing and preparation of financial statements and documentation for external auditors
Knowledge, Skills & Education
- Excellent communication, leadership and problem solving skills
- Knowledge of Human Resources Policies and Procedures (preferred)
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft GP(ERP)(preferred))
- Bachelor Degree in Commerce (Accounting preferred)
- Enrolled in or completed the CGA, CA, CMA program
- Highly organized and efficient in order to meet strict deadlines
- Self-starter with strong attention to detail, sound analytical skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities under pressure
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Flexibility to work overtime when required
- Experience in the accounting field preferred
